The Forbidden Songs - They were sung during the occupation of Poland and were one of the ways of fighting the Germans , as they were helping to keep up the morale of the nation.:
Undaunted and boisterous, soldierly andlyrical, often with touches ofbiting satire on the occupants, they were expressing the general faith in the final victory.
It is now difficult to trace their origin.They used to spring up overnight: some anonymous writer would write the lyric to a well-known tune and the next day the song would be sung by the whole Warsaw.
On this record you will find twelve of the most popular songs of those days.They are being performed by a group of street buskers, well-known in Warsaw, some of whom were actually singing them during the occupation, which enchances the authenticity of this record.
Since the days these songs were sung for the first time, many other tunes were in vogue and have been forgotten, they, however, have retained their unique expressiveness and appeal which makes them still very popular.
